KIDS HOPE USA was created in 1993 by International Aid to help local churches address the growing needs of America’s children. KIDS HOPE USA is a tutoring program, which gives church members an opportunity to model the love of Christ by encouraging an at-risk elementary school child while helping him learn to read. Volunteers spend one hour per week with a child from first through third grade at VanRaalte K-3 School.
Our Mission
KIDS HOPE USA exists to lead people into building a compassionate bridge of influence with one family, through a redemptive relationship with one child, for one hour, focusing on one school.
KIDS HOPE USA volunteers help children learn to read while giving them emotional support. Children who acquire this critical skill by grade four are eight times less likely to drop out of school. These relationships will be the foundation for reaching neighborhood families with the good news of Jesus Christ and drawing them into a church.
Our Goal
To have 100 mentors from Central Wesleyan Church working with 100 students at VanRaalte K-3 School. Only people can offer the hope of a caring relationship to a child—people like you. If you have a passion for kids, KIDS HOPE USA may offer you the strategy you need to give hope to a child. Is God speaking to your heart about reaching out to a child?
There is one boy or girl waiting for you!
Will you give one hour a week in Christ’s name to one child?
FAQsWhat is KIDS HOPE?
KIDS HOPE was created in 1993 by
International Aid to help local churches address the growing needs of
America’s children. KIDS HOPE is a tutoring program that gives church
members an opportunity to model the love of Christ by encouraging an
at-risk elementary school child while helping him learn to read.

through third grade at VanRaalte K-3 School.
Who can be a Kids Hope Tutor?
Any person at CWC who loves the Lord, has a heart for children, is over
16 years old and can read is eligible to participate in the program.
Who are these children?
VanRaalte Elementary School will refer students who need help with
reading and emotional support. Although we cannot provide tutors for
every child, we can reach many children whose lives can be impacted
through the involvement of a caring volunteer.
How much time would I need to commit?
When it comes to your contact with a child, a few minutes will go a
long way. All we ask is that you give one hour per week for an entire
school year to your assigned child. Children who lack structure in
their lives need to count on those special moments with you once each
week. There will also be several events throughout the year designed to
help you build a bridge of influence with your student and his or her
family. Additional training and support meetings will be held
periodically throughout the year.
Will I recieve training?
A training session
is required for all volunteers. This session, along with an orientation
session at VanRaalte K-3 School, will give you an understanding
of the child as well as appropriate educational skills. They are
designed to make your experience fruitful and fulfilling.
When and where will I do my tutoring?
Liability issues make meetings between an adult and child outside the
church or school setting unwise. All meetings, therefore, will be at
VanRaalte K-3 School. See the Calendar for family centered activities planned by the church.
What is the goal of the program?
KIDS HOPE volunteers help children learn to read while giving them
emotional support. Children who acquire this critical skill by grade
four are eight times less likely to drop out of school. The tutoring
relationship gives the children help, hope and a future. These
relationships will be the foundation for reaching neighborhood families
with the good news of Jesus Christ and drawing them into the church.
