Overview

The Central Wesleyan Church Internship Program is an experience in hands-on ministry. We desire to engage, equip and energize full-time college students majoring in ministry for the kingdom work of tomorrow. Internships are available in: Children’s Ministry, Student Ministries, College Ministries and Half-Mile/Neighborhood Ministries.

Experience ministry and experience life at Central Wesleyan Church during the summer of 2008. Our vision is to begin the 12-week program by providing five to six interns with an initial week internship training/overview. Each intern will then be supervised by a pastor or director in their area of ministry interest who will engage the intern in various facets of hands-on ministry. Interns will incorporate the use of their spiritual gifts and abilities in aspects of ministry including, but not limited to: an all-intern led project, individual projects in their areas of ministry concentration, staff meetings, pastoral care and a small group study for interns. This is a full-time ministry experience.

Ministry Concentrations for Summer 2008

Kid Central Children’s Ministry – Pastor Jay Hostetler

Jay has served in Children’s Ministries for over 30 years. His ministry experience has included being a children’s pastor, college professor, consultant and national speaker…(Blah, blah, blah. He’s a really good guy and a blast to work with. You want to know the ins-and-outs of ministry with kids? He’s your guy!) At Central, Jay provides leadership as the Lifestage Pastor for children from birth through 12th grade. Jay is married, has two children and three incredible grandsons.
Passions: Creating life-changing experiences for children through the local church by empowering volunteers to be their best. (Golf and In-and-Out burgers too!)

Spiritual Gifts: Leadership and Exhortation

Summer ’08 Internship will include: Cosmic Vacation Bible School (1000+ kids), Kid Blitz, Gazebo Game Night and other fun team events.

Half-Mile/Neighborhood Ministry – Chris Hofland

Chris is fairly new to Central’s staff (yeah, kind of wet behind the ears). For the past six months he has served as Influence Director. This basically means he leads the area of local outreach. This ministry looks to identify needs within our community and equips members of Central to step out in faith to meet those needs. The Influence ministry looks to serve all individuals in the Holland community while giving extra attention to the area within a half mile of our church. Prior to coming to Central, Chris taught in the public school system for eleven years (what took him so long to get out?). Chris is married and is a dad to four young children. (He’s also fun-sized, likes soccer and throws things.)

Passions: Being the hands and feet of Jesus in the community. (Church!)

Spiritual Gifts: Discernment, Giving, Service

Interns can look forward to these events: Play kickball and do crafts with urban kids, distribute food to 100 families in an hour, work at VBS, interact and serve families expecting babies, be a loving neighbor and cleaning Chris’s office. (Yeah, so not much.)

College Ministry – Todd Johnson

Todd worked in collegiate ministry for six years at two different campuses in Texas, San Jacinto College and Sam Houston State University (he really couldn’t keep a job for long). He has been serving in his present role as Young Adult/Small Group Pastor for Central since last September. (He can do a back-flip while singing his high vibrato but probably wouldn’t recover and neither would you!) Todd is married and has two young sons.

Passions: Developing disciples of Christ and helping prepare college students for the world they will face after graduation.

Spiritual Gifts:
Administration, Leadership and Shepherding

Summer ’08 Events Include: Weekly Bible studies, college retreat, lead a retreat for just-graduated high school students, socials, late nights at coffee house, local mission opportunities (a special bonus: babysitting Todd’s cute, precious, adorable, sweet, angelic boys).

Student Ministry – Lance Young, Christy Moo

Lance has served (survived) as a Middle School Pastor for over six years. Along with our middle school programming, Lance is involved with Testify Ministries Skate Church (he does a wicked, old school kickflip), which is a weekly volunteer position as Teaching Pastor for Youth For Christ. Lance is pastor of “House 446” which is a Central Wesleyan based, Hip-Hop Church (can you dig it?). Lance is married and has three children. (Most of us look up to him and his wife, literally!)

Passions:
Creating environments and opportunities for teens and adults to connect with Christ and each other in order to reach their God given potential.

Spiritual Gifts: Discernment, Faith, Leadership and Wisdom

Christy oversees the outreach and missions program for middle school and high school. She is also responsible for leadership recruitment and development. Christy is in just her second year on staff at Central. (Christy is single but always looking!)

Passions: Creating experiences through which students realize that God can and will use them to influence others.

Spiritual Gifts: Exhortation, Hospitality, Leadership, Administration

Summer Events for Interns in StuMin: Beach days with students, hiking, biking, amusement parks, service projects. Basically, having fun while connecting with students. (So that’s what they get paid for.)
