Senior Adults' Encore Group
"Encore" interjection—again; once more. n. The call by an audience, as by prolonged applause, for repetition of a performance or for an additional performance; also, that which is performed in response to this call.
That's it exactly! That dictionary definition describes our Encore attitude: the "audience" are those saints who have gone on before, cheering us on. God is calling us, and we respond again and again to the needs of our friends, family, church and community. You will see us in the Memorial Day parade, praying, volunteering at Evergreen Commons, praying, rocking babies, sharing in the Plunge activities and projects at International Aid, praying, baking cookies and praying for our servicemen and women, again and again.
The stages of life through which we have passed have contributed directly to our trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and our unwavering faith in the powerof prayer. We respond to the call of Christ to "pray without ceasing, for everything, in all circumstances." We gladly share our answers to prayer, with many insights revealed that can only come through many years of experiencing God's grace, again and again.
We have a class "Prayer Chain" with 30 people who relay immediate prayer needs by telephone. Our mid-weekly group time of "Prayer and Praise" meets on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. in C161. Our weekly newsletter, "The Messenger," relays special prayer requests of local, state, national or international concern. We pray again and again.
We are an active group! The Encore Council plans monthly outings, often being day trips to places of interest. Other gatherings might include local entertainment, game nights, pot lucks and breakfast at local restaurants. We are all for keeping in touch... again and again.
Our Sunday lessons are always meaningful and enlightening, Scripture-based yet inviting class participation, whether taught by Larry Johnson, our leader, or by someone else approved by him.
Overall, we're interested in serving God His way, loving people, caring for each other and staying active. Who wouldn't enjoy a group of people with such a positive attitude? If you would, great! Come and meet with us any Sunday at 8 a.m. in room C161. Don't let your age stop you. I think you'll be surprised.
