Meals for Moms

The phone is ringing. The dog is barking. The cat needs to be fed. The bowls that held the morning's cereal are still in the sink along with the dirty dishes from dinner last night. You trip over the stack of dirty clothes in front of the washing machine while the older children are discussing, rather loudly, who actually owns the Lego's. You look down and realize that you haven't showered for two days, and you slept in the clothes you are now wearing—and it's 5:15 in the evening! The doorbell chimes and you breathe a sigh of exasperation as you again trip over the mountain of dirty laundry on the way to the door. Prepared to decline when asked to buy more Girl Scout cookies, you realize this smiling person is not standing there with a clipboard in hand asking for something. Rather, she is bringing you something to make life a little easier.

"Hi. I'm from Central Wesleyan Church. We want to congratulate you with the arrival of your new baby. Here is dinner for tonight. We want you to know you have the hardest job in the world and we value you."

She hands you the warm, freshly-made meal, and you put it in the kitchen. A hug is offered and the visitor emits "oohs" and "ahhs" of admiration at your little bundle of joy. After a short visit and a smiling good bye, the door is shut. The dirty dishes are still there and so is the laundry, but warm, delicious food is on the table, and your family is gathered around.

Having a baby is such an amazing and blessed time in the life of a family, but it can also be an overwhelming experience. There are so many responsibilities that are immediately placed in your hands as a new mother or the mother of a few. Even if you have family and friends in the area, it can still be a difficult time, and Central Wesleyan would love to be your local family and lend a helping hand. We're committed to our moms to give them "serenity now," which could mean a little more time for a shower and a clean change of clothes!

One way we would love to help is through this Meals for Moms ministry. If you and your family are blessed by a new arrival, we would love to know about it and share with you in that joy! Meals for Moms is designed to help the transition of bringing a new baby home a little easier.

If you are willing to help by volunteering or if you know someone who could benefit from this ministry, please contact Holly at 395.3138 or email her at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
