A Neighborhood Outreach Ministry of Central Wesleyan Church ONE makes all the difference! One child, one hour is the heart of Kids Hope USA. One caring adult, mentors an at-risk child for one hour every week, because when kids feel loved and valued, they are better able to learn, grow and succeed. Created in 1993 by International Aid to help local churches address the growing needs of America’s children, Kids Hope USA is a tutoring program, which gives church members an opportunity to model the love of Christ by encouraging an at-risk elementary school child while helping him learn to read. Trained volunteers spend one hour per week with a child from first through fifth grade at Jefferson School. Our Mission Kids Hope USA exists to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ as they build compassionate bridges of influence with Jefferson School families through redemptive relationships with one child, for one hour, at one school, in our community. Kids Hope USA volunteer’s help children learn to read while giving them emotional support. Children who acquire this critical skill by grade four are eight times less likely to drop out of school. These relationships are the foundation for reaching neighborhood families with the good news of Jesus Christ and drawing them into the church. Our Goal Kids Hope USA volunteers understand Focused on 5! We need 250 volunteers in four key areas. (1) A trained MENTOR invests one hour a week in a Jefferson Elementary student. (2) A personal PRAYER PARTNER prays for one match relationship during each week. (3) Trained SUPER SUBS are needed to fill in periodically for Mentors who cannot meet on certain weeks. (4) FRIENDS OF JEFFERSON who adopt 1 of 20 classrooms, praying and performing random acts of kindness designed to build redemptive bridges of influence.
