Paul Hontz
History: Pastor Paul Hontz has been the senior pastor at Central Wesleyan for 33 years. He and his wife Marilyn have 5 children and 3 grandchildren: Christy (Adam) Jude (3) Elijah (1); Holly (Dave) and Ella (4) and Zoe (2) and Dawson (1); Mandy (John) Sam (2); and Abby (Tom); Paul Matthew. Influences: Jimmy Johnson, Derric Johnson and Bob Hempy were significant influences in my earlier life. My parents have had a profound impact on me for good. Other influences: church, youth camp, football and wrestling, Keith Green, Henri Nouwen's "In The Name of Jesus," Jack Hayford, John Wesley, Winston Churchill, Abraham Lincoln, Neil Diamond, Peter, Paul and Mary, the Righteous Brothers Epic Moments: My conversion, meeting Marilyn, the births of my five children, my first capital campaign with the people at Central, our first Faith Promise event, when my children responded to Christ as their own, the death of my sister, whenever I lead someone to Christ. Lynn Bruce
Influences: The greatest influence is wife, Cheryl, and long time ministry partners Paul Hontz and Jack Lynn and a key mentor, Dave Lutz. Epic moments: Completing master degrees in both Divinity and Business; first road tip to California with Cheryl, 6,500 mile motorcycle trip to the west coast and up to Canada through four mountain ranges, hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon with son, Brandon, and mission trips to Azerbaijan and India. Favorite bands: Robin Mark Favorite book: The Chronicles of Narnia Favorite movie: Blind Side Worst movie ever: Grease Favorite food: black raspberry pie Spare time: Riding a motorcycle, vacations and working around the house. Passion: To see children and grandchildren become fully devoted followers of Christ. Favorite show: The Closer Fear factors: Facing the day when Cheryl says she does not want me to ride motorcycles any more. Biggest frustration: When I see or hear of poverty, combined with poor choices or when there are limited opportunities making solutions difficult for families. Motivation: Seeing people come to Christ and the church advancing Kingdom principles.
